Robbie, Betty and Burl Traylor
Burl and Betty Traylor were married in 1993 and lived in Jacksonville, Florida. Both were medical professionals. Burl was a paramedic for 12 years and Betty was a Respiratory Therapist for 35 years.
Luke 4:18 - "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor, He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, " (KJV)
This is the verse they took to heart when an event took place in 1995 that would ultimately change the course of their lives. God called them to one of the local Jacksonville FL churches where they began to work with the inner city ministry. Eventually they visited New York City and spent time with Bill Wilson, the founder of Metro Ministries, an inner-city ministry.
One year later they stepped out of their comfort zone and began to minister to children unable to attend Sunday School and Church. In the playground of a public housing community in Jacksonville, Florida, they set up their equipment, where they taught praise songs, memory verses, and shared the love of Jesus Christ. Within a short time, they were ministering four days a week at four different community sites.
In 2003, God healed Burl of severe congestive heart failure and he was removed from the heart transplant list. Wanting to be faithful, Betty quit her job and they ran the ministry full time together.
Robbie came into their lives when he was two weeks old, just out of NICU, and weighting just over 3 pounds. In 2006, they adopted him when he was 18 months old.
